Title: Retired Partner
Employer: Barnes & Thornburg
Daniel Albers holds both a Bachelor's Degree and a Doctorate Degree from the University of
Illinois, obtained in 1980 and 1983, respectively. His academic journey included a focus on
Biology and Law.
He is a recently retired law partner at Barnes & Thornburg, one of the top 100 law firms in the
United States. He specialized in the intellectual property and litigation departments. His role
involved handling complex and high-stakes litigation, often with a significant focus on scientific
matters.
Daniel attributes much of his professional success to the degrees he obtained from the University
of Illinois. These qualifications have enabled him to support and raise his family and manage
sophisticated legal cases that frequently involved scientific issues. His background in biology
was particularly valuable in navigating the intricacies of intellectual property law.
Daniel is a proud double Illini and is enthusiastic about connecting with current IB students
through various mentorship opportunities. He is open to participating in informational
interviews, addressing career-related questions, and providing mentorship to students who seek
guidance in their professional journeys. Contact Christina Swanson
at alumnimentor@sib.illinois.edu if you would like to connect with Daniel.
