Title: Emergency Medicine Physician
Employer: Excelis Medical Associates
Previous Role: Resident Physician in Emergency Medicine, DMC - Sinai-Grace Hospital
Jake graduated from Illinois Integrative Biology in 2014 and then completed his MD at St. Louis University School of Medicine in 2019.
He recently completed a 3 year residency in Emergency Medicine at Sinai-Grace Hospital, which is part of Detroit Medical Center. This hospital, and his emergency department, received more level 1 ambulance runs than any hospital in the state.
Currently Jake is an attending physician in Tampa, FL. He is on staff at St. Joseph’s hospital, a large trauma center, and at Moffitt cancer center.
Jake’s degree in Integrative Biology allowed him to pursue medical school. “It gave me a more well-rounded view of human physiology by explaining things in evolutionary and ecological terms.”
Having recently completed medical training Jake will be able to provide a unique perspective on what it takes to get into medical school and succeed in emergency medicine. He is very interested in providing advice and perspective whenever he is able. Contact Christina Swanson at alumnimentor@sib.illinois.edu if you would like to connect with Jake.
