Alumni Profile: Laura Janousek

Title: Quality Engineer Leadership Development Program
Employer: Medline Industries
Previous Role: Laboratory Analyst, AbbVie

Laura graduated from Integrative Biology and Chemistry in 2019 and is now in a leadership development program as a Quality Engineer at Medline Industries. In addition to her job, Laura is in graduate school for a Masters in Finance from Colorado State University. She previously worked as a Laboratory Analyst at Abbvie. She is also an alum of IB292 and was actively involved on campus during undergrad, as the President of Beta Psi Omega, Vice President of Alpha Chi Sigma, a chemistry TA, and an undergraduate researcher in the Marshall-Colon lab.

Her role at Medline has several rotations for exposure to different areas of medical device regulations, ranging from manufacturing to auditing suppliers. At AbbVie her role involved testing products and materials to assure they meet various quality guidelines both before being used in product and after manufacturing.

“My IB degree allowed me to develop transferable skills in areas such as communication and leadership, as well as more concrete skills in laboratory settings.”

Laura would be a great person to talk to about careers in the biotech industry or how to get involved in undergraduate research or other organizations during undergrad. Contact Christina Swanson at alumnimentor@sib.illinois.edu if you would like to connect with Laura.
