Interested in joining Cosplay for Science?
Cosplay for Science is a consortium of researchers, curators and teachers who utilize cosplay and role play to create immersive science outreach events. The group on UIUC campus, led by Dr. Phil Anderson in SIB, has put on several events in the Urbana-Champaign area over the last two years.
The purpose of this form is to create a simple way for graduate or undergraduate students who have not yet had a chance to participate get involved in some of the events we are doing this Spring. Specifcially:
April 4th: we will be running our 2025-2026 event, Multi-planar Dragon Expo at the Anita Purves Nature Center We did a version of this event in the Fall and it went quite well. Participating in the Fall event is not a requirement to participate in this and new volunteers are welcome to either join an existing activity or even suggest a new one if they have the time and energy to make it. Joining a pre-made activity is a great way to learn how these events work.
April 10-11 is the Grangier College of Engineering Open House. Cosplay for Science is hosting an activity room based around superheroes to explore the different areas of bioengineering. Plans in place but we need volunteers to help run everything. No prior engineering knowledge is required to volunteer.
If you are interested in either event, or simply want to stay informed about what we do, please fill the form out and Dr Anderson will reach out to you. We have a Discord that you can be added to if you desire to see everything we are up to.
Convocation is coming!
We may only be a few weeks into the spring semester, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be thinking about graduation! Convocation will be on Sunday, May 17 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. We'll once again be in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, specifically in Foellinger Great Hall. As you prepare to graduate, be sure to utilize our handy senior checklist to ensure you don’t miss anything on your way to walking across the stage!

Information on drop deadline for international students
As we approach the March 13 drop deadline for full-semester courses, we ask that you please remind your students—especially international students—about the potential academic and immigration implications of schedule changes.
For international students, maintaining visa status requires:
- A minimum of 12 total credit hours for full-time enrollment
- At least 9 in-person credit hours within those 12 hours
- Any credits beyond the required 9 in-person hours may be fully online
Dropping a course that reduces a student below 12 total hours or below 9 in-person hours may jeopardize their visa status. We encourage advisors to remind students to carefully review their schedules before making changes and to consult with appropriate offices when needed.
To provide additional support, I will hold international student drop-in hours today, Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11 in 2002 Lincoln Hall from 1:00–4:40 p.m. Please feel free to refer students who have questions about visa compliance or enrollment requirements.

TalkCampus
TalkCampus offers support to Illinois students whenever they need it. It connects students with other students who understand what you’re going through. It is safely monitored, anonymous, and available 24/7 in 26 languages.
On TalkCampus, you can share what’s on your mind, chat one-on-one with a trained TalkCampus Buddy, join group conversations, journal, and explore self-guided tools to support your wellbeing. There’s no judgment, just real conversations with students who have lived experience with common college stressors.
To get started, create an account using your Illinois NetID. If you have questions, contact the Counseling Center at 217-333-3704 during business hours.
Let's Talk
Let's Talk is a program offered by our embedded counselors. It is not a counseling appointment but a casual conversation about Counseling Center services available to you. Conversations with Let’s Talk counselors are private, informal consultations. Let's Talk appointments are 15 minutes long, and there is no fee.
To schedule a Let's Talk appointment, please schedule an appointment online.
