As an undergraduate you'll...
Body
  • Begin your Illinois journey in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, where curiosity sparks discovery. Explore foundational courses in Integrative Biology, meet faculty who ask big questions about life and the world around us, and find the direction that inspires you. Most students confidently declare their major by the second semester.
  • Build a strong, multidisciplinary foundation in the biological sciences. From genetics and evolution to anatomy, physiology, ecology, and biodiversity, you’ll investigate key questions that shape our understanding of living systems. With dedicated advising, you’ll tailor advanced coursework to the topics that excite your curiosity and support your goals.
  • Transform learning into impact through hands-on research. Join labs in Entomology; Ecology, Evolution and Behavior; or Plant Biology to explore real scientific challenges, earn competitive funding and internships, and broaden your perspective through study-abroad experiences. Throughout your journey, you’ll receive personalized guidance and support.
  • Access meaningful financial and academic support designed to help you thrive. SIB offers scholarships, research internships, summer fellowships, and paid opportunities as peer leaders and tutors, empowering you to focus on discovery, growth, and the experiences that shape your path forward.

Master of Science Programs

Body

Fuel your curiosity and accelerate your path in the life sciences with SIB’s combined BSLAS + MS in Integrative Biology — a five-year, non-thesis program designed for students eager to dive deeper into fields like genomics, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, and environmental biology. This fast-track option empowers you to explore big questions, build advanced skills, and step confidently into careers in healthcare, biotech, environmental science, and more — or continue toward further graduate study with a strong, interdisciplinary foundation.

If your interests lead you down a different path, SIB offers a range of specialized master’s programs in Entomology, Plant Biology, Evolution, Ecology & Behavior, and the Program in Ecology, Evolution & Conservation Biology, alongside the stand-alone MS in Integrative Biology. Each program invites you to investigate your own questions, collaborate across disciplines, and shape a graduate experience that aligns with your goals. Whether you’re driven by research, conservation, teaching, or applied biological problem-solving, in SIB your curiosity becomes momentum and that momentum drives impact.
